What were the castles made of?

When castles were first built, they were supposedly mad out of wood. They started as a simple wood structure, built on the hills of "motes". Castles were built out of wood first because they knew wood was rebuildable. When castle builders found out that wood castles could catch fire, they changed the material to build them. The two new materials used for building included stone and motar.  Some was introduced as a castle building material when they learned stone was fireproof, as well as stronger and more durable then wood. When they finally had some castle materials figured out, they added what they needed to make it more efficient when attacking and defending against enemies. When the castle building techniques had started to change, the castles became for elaborate. The castes became more defensive, and the designs for the castles became more technical.
